Information

Wojtek Kutyla (b. 1981, Poland) is a visual artist living in Edinburgh. Focused on personal experiences and broader social issues, he frequently incorporates humour into his mixed-media work. He is also a portraitist and one of the winners of the British Journal of Photography Portrait of Britain 2016. One of his books, Sentience (2015), became the Photocaptionist Book of the Year. Wojtek graduated from the Sputnik Photos Mentoring Programme (edition 13).

And now for something completely different…

I really don’t like stiff artist statements. Decoding them often requires a degree in Arts. Hence I’m going to write another statement that is more like me.

My name is Wojtek Kutyla. I was born in Poland in 1981. I live in Edinburgh. I photograph things that my mind tells me to photograph. It’s like blowing my nose; I have to get rid of stuff before it infects me even more. I like pretty and weird images, and I am good working with people, so they appear on many of my photographs. I like my dog Zenon, too. I believe that art should not be just for the privileged ones. Apart from photography, I make attempts at painting, drawing, making music and writing. It’s good fun. You should try it, too. Respect.
